Continuing Education Courses for Ophthalmic Technical Personnel

Click here for information on the requirements for recertification for ophthalmic assistants, technicians, and technologists.

Continuing education courses and credits can be obtained from a number of sources. The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (800-284-3937) sponsors a number of courses at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. If you are certified, then you are on their mailing list and you will receive the catalog in the mail. There are many organizations that apply for group A or group B credit for courses that they sponsor. It is common for individual ophthalmology practices and clinics to organize their own CE courses. There are independent providers that provide "in person" courses or online courses. The list seems like it is endless, so you should not have trouble getting the required credits within the 3 year cycle. You can even organize your own courses. Call the Joint Commission for an application.
